Yongwu Yang, Ph.D.
President and Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board of Directors

Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. degree in laser spectroscopy from MIT. He became a Senior Scientist at SerOptix, Inc. in 1997 and later its Vice president for Technology. At SerOptix he led the Company's scientific development team in creating instrumentation and detection systems for intrinsic fluorescence of molecular markers for disease detection and drug discovery, which led to two issued patents and several pending patent applications.

Prior to this, Dr. Yang joined the Barnett Institute of Northeastern University, where he was responsible for the design and implementation of fast fluorescence spectrographic CCD imaging detectors for a multi-capillary DNA sequencer and other fluorescence-based detection systems.

While a graduate student at MIT, Dr. Yang developed a novel spectroscopic method for measuring viscoelastic properties and a theoretical basis for comparison of experimental data to first-principles predictions, for which he won a Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award.

Before coming to the United States for his doctoral studies, Dr. Yang obtained his M.S. in optics from the Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and his B.S. degree in physics, with highest honors, at Central China Normal University.
